Mindlessly, my finger clicked the mouse button ordering some old motorcycles, the particular years being in the 80’s to 90’s. The age makes them not yet antiques as they are between new and old, but we still can see some old Taiwanese fashions and showing-off in the designs. I was still a kid at that time, but now I’m so much yearning for that time. I found many slogan stickers on the motorcycles, such as “愛羅武勇” which catch my eyes at first or even “夜露死苦”. After googling, I found “愛羅武勇” is from Bosozoku (Japanese motorcycle gang). They used the homophonic Kanji (the Chinese characters in Japanese language) for the meaning of “I love you”—- it’s like the well-known “愛老虎油” in Taiwan. But at that time, Taiwan didn’t seem to be influenced by Bosozoku, or perhaps just the rampant street-racing. The ridiculous costumes and the modified motorcycle of Bosozoku are spectacular for nowadays. Times change, and, reportedly, just a few thousands re-mainding Bosozoku in aging Japanese society, and some areas even call them “Dasaizoku” (meaning old fashion group). The people’s reactions made them ashamed of their poor taste, but to my surprise, I am disconsolate for them. I’ve never involved in the time of Bosozoku, and of course can’t go back to the past, and therefore, I will play the role of Bosozoku through my imagination, and utilize some props to make up the showing-off possibilities and the associations of Japanese Bosozoku and the Taiwan street-racing group.
*1 “愛羅武勇”: pronounce as “Ai-La-Bu-Yu” in Japanese.
*2 “夜露死苦”: pronounce as “Yo-Ro-Shi-Ku” in Japanese, means “Nice to meet you” in English.
*3 “愛老虎油”: pronounce as ”Ai-Lao-Hu-You” in Chinese.
